“Pintar en Bolivia gives these children a great value: the feeling of being a child again!”

Aliénor (24), France/Switzerland

“The results are impressive and it’s interesting to see the link between their histories and artworks. I also notice that the women opened up towards each others. This strengthens the group dynamic and shows they trust each other.”

Marthy (20), Luxembourg

“I can not do miracles, but in this way I can make a contribution and help put a smile on a sad face”

Mauricio (24), Bolivia

“As an Art Therapist student I gained a lot of educational experience on the field, being in direct contact with the children and their precarious situations. It has helped be more creative as to how to interact with patients to conduct therapeutical sessions.”

Mandy (20), Netherlands

Pintar en Bolivia is a recently founded NGO which purpose is to help unprivileged children and women through Arts Therapy. The foundation is based in Cochabamba, Bolivia’s third largest city and a place of cultural authenticity; where one can surely find a humanitarian purpose.

Believing art therapy is a powerful tool to help one overcome personal issues, we currently operate in three different centres: the children oncological department of Viedma, a rehabilitation centre for burnt children and a safe house for abused women.

The volunteering experience

We are currently looking for Art Therapists who could help us lead the different projects. The therapist would be handling one of the centres, helping structure a mid-long term project with the centre. The therapist will be in charge of handling the art sessions, evaluate children/women’s improvement and offering adequate session to personal as well as joint goals. Responsibilities (of which some in collaboration with the founder, Lisan) may include:

  • Handling other volunteers (local or international)
  • Making a plan for a sustainable therapy session structure at the centre
  • Training local volunteers to independently handle some sessions
  • Taking responsibility for the children’s wellbeing during the sessions, and being a support figure for them when needed
  • Writing evaluation reports
  • Attending meetings with our collaborators to help the NGO undergo the various projects
  • Coming up with other idea’s to bring the NGO further

Conditions

We are looking for motivated people wanting to immerse in a different culture to help their communities. Please understand that in order to effectively help them, there is at least a 3 month integrating phase in which one gets to know the language, culture, the children, the women, and the centres, how things work in Bolivia and so on. Therefore in order to be able to work in a concrete and sustainable project we are in the lookout for people with the following requirements:

  • Ready to commit for a minimum of 6 months
  • A recently graduated or professional Art Therapist
  • Fluent in English, written and oral
  • Fluent in Spanish, or with at least a good basis enabling one to already interact with others, written and oral

Please get in touch with us if this description fits you, and to know more about the project and volunteering conditions. We will be more than happy to have a chat with you and help you find the adequate volunteering experience.

We look forward to meeting you!

Life in Bolivia

Bolivia is located in the centre of South-America. For this reason, Bolivia is mentioned as the ‘heart of South America’ and because of it’s natural beauty, also known as ‘the pearl of South America’.

Travelling through this country is a real discovery for anyone who loves to travel! The rugged landscapes, powerful colours, a diverse and authentic culture makes you feel like you are standing in the middle of discovering a very pure country!

Bolivia has a handful of natural wonders which makes the country worth a visit! It holds a very rich culture, sometimes still untouched, colourful traditions, people of extreme kindness (as well as people with whom who’ll have to be patient to be well treated!), an interesting social diversity, colourful markets, a cheap and chill lifestyle, and an easy of mobility enabling one to easily visit the country. Bolivia is also known as a great place to enhance or learn Spanish, thanks to the gentle, clear and quiet way of speaking Spanish in the country.
